Aubie
Mascot of Auburn

Aubie has won six National Mascot Championships. He was inducted into the Mascot Hall of Fame on August 15, 2006. Aubie has been around since 1959 and is adored by AU fans and recognized as one of the most animated mascots in the entire country.
He was created by Phil Neel as a cartoon character in the Auburn/Hardin-Simmons football program in 1959. By 1962 he began to stand upright and in 1963 he wore clothes...a blue tie and straw hat. |
Big Al
Mascot of Alabama

Big Al originated back in 1930 when on October 8th a sportswriter commented on Alabama's recent win of Ole Miss. He quoted a fan who yelled, "Here come the elephants" referring to the rumble of the team coming onto the field. The name stuck and Alabama went onto win a National Championship that year.
A costumed "Big Al" made his first appearance in 1979 when the Tide beat Penn State in the Sugar Bowl. Since the Crimson Tide do not have a logo on their helmets or uniforms, Big Al is usually put on much of the teams merchandise.
